AppleInsider | Apple plans special event next month, new iPods likely
Apple Computer is distributing media alerts and invitations to a special event that will take place on or before Thursday, July 7th, but the company is not yet offering details.

Apple news site MacBidouille is one of several French publications that claims to have received a media alert pertaining to the event. It’s noted that a similar message was presented to the publication just prior the Oct., 2004 Apple music event that saw the launch of the iPod photo.
According to the web report, Apple is asking the media to prepare for new product announcements on or before the first Thursday in July.
Industry sources believe the event may very likely coincide with the planned high-profile launch of iTunes 4.9 with Podcasting support. Sources had previously stated that the software was due for launch by the first week of July.
Sources tell AppleInsider that the event could also play host to new iPod offerings, which may include second-generation iPod shuffles and possibly fifth-generation iPods.
It has not been stated where the event will take place, but last year Apple utilized San Jose’s California Theater to introduce the iPod photo in a similar media event.
Mass hack targets critical Windows flaw - vnunet.com
A recent surge in port 445 scanning activity could herald impending hack attacks, and industry experts have warned firms to take “immediate steps” to ensure that the affected Windows ports are secure.
Gartner pointed to recent reports that security vulnerability sensors have noted an increase in activity on TCP port 445, which is associated with Microsoft’s Windows Server Message Block (SMB) protocol.
Giant Popsicle Melts, Floods New York Park - Yahoo! News
NEW YORK - An attempt to erect the world’s largest Popsicle in a city square ended with a scene straight out of a disaster film — but much stickier.
The 25-foot-tall, 17 1/2-ton treat of frozen Snapple juice melted faster than expected Tuesday, flooding Union Square in downtown Manhattan with kiwi-strawberry-flavored fluid that sent pedestrians scurrying for higher ground.
Firefighters closed off several streets and used hoses to wash away the sugary goo.
Snapple had been trying to promote a new line of frozen treats by setting a record for the world’s largest Popsicle, but called off the stunt before it was pulled fully upright by a construction crane. Authorities said they were worried the thing would collapse in the 80-degree, first-day-of-summer heat.
“What was unsettling was that the fluid just kept coming,” Stuart Claxton of the Guinness Book of World Records told the Daily News. “It was quite a lot of fluid. On a hot day like this, you have to move fast.”
Snapple official Lauren Radcliffe said the company was unlikely to make a second attempt to break the record, set by a 21-foot pop in Holland in 1997.
The giant pop was supposed to have been able to withstand the heat for some time, and organizers weren’t sure why it didn’t. It had been made in Edison, N.J., and hauled to New York by freezer truck in the morning.
I don’t even have to say it.
psphacker.com : New Swaploit to be Released?
Almost a week after Killer-X and the PSP-Dev team released the revolutionary Swaploit v0.1, and they seem to be at it again. Their website states that on the 22nd of June (tomorrow), at 12:00 GMT, they will be releasing a new version of this method. Details as of now are fuzzy since nothing is said about it except:
“Several days ago we released the swaploit (15-Jun) , some of the sceners got satisfied but some of you tell us to do it better. Today we are proud to announce that in a few days you will get a new hit from Killer-X and PsP-Dev Team…â€
The only clues the videos on the site offer of this new version is something called ‘Direct Loader’, followed by a SNES emu loading up WITHOUT swapping memory sticks. Is this is the end of memory stick swapping? Let us only hope. Should this be true, expect another groundbreaking PSP 1.5 hack tomorrow morning. Stay tuned for more details as this story progresses.
See the PSP-Dev Site
Watch the video!
When will it be released? Hopefully at 12:00GMT so 6am Central… So maybe I will have a nice surprise waiting for me tomorrow morning!

The online search giant Google is getting ready to launch an online electronic payment system some time later this year. This would pose the biggest thread to eBay’s PayPal service known to many over the last few years. EBay bought PayPal in 2002 for about 1.3 million to incorporate the service in its own online auction. Google’s profits had been strictly depended on the advertising but this type of service might bring potential revenues and possibly make Google less dependent on ads.
Google declines to comment.
First quarter returns:
PayPal : $233.1 million
Google: $1.26 billion
