Early Movie DVD Releases Contemplated While MPA Gets Warrant for All of New Delhi
Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, another major player in the movie industry, the Motion Picture Association, is attempting to address the movie pirating problem in the only way it knows how: with aggressive legal tactics. However this newest development may astonish even the staunchest of MPA apologists.
The MPA has obtained a search warrant to allow it to conduct searches for pirated movies and related materials in New Delhi, India. Now, there is nothing unusual about the MPA obtaining a search warrant, however this search warrant is unusually broad. In fact, it couldn’t be broader. Actually, I believe that it may be unprecedented.
The MPA has obtained an open search warrant for the entire city of New Delhi, India.
In a statement, the MPA explained that the order “permits police to search any premises suspected of containing pirated products, and permits officers to open locked premises without delay. The order is expected to be especially useful in facilitating raids on the notorious Palika Bazaar, where information about imminent raids often leaks before police can effect arrest and seizures.â€
Personally, I suspect that Mr. Iger’s idea may be more successful. It’s certainly less distasteful.
Alan Parekh’s Electronic Projects – Hard Drive Clock
Ok, look at the image below.. It is a clock made out of an old hard drive and some LEDs.. Not that impressive huh?

Well you really dont understand what is going on until you see the video!
Have an old hard drive that no longer works? As long as it still spins up chances are you could build a clock out of your old hard drive!
You will need some electronic knowledge, some common electronic components and a bit of patients. The clock that is produced isn’t exactly practical since most hard drives (especially older ones) are too loud for a clock that is to operate 24 hours a day.

PCWorld.com – Zotob Arrests Highlight Cybercrime Organization
The expanding investigation into this month’s Zotob worm outbreak is uncovering evidence of the growing nexus between worm writers and gangs looking to profit from cybercrime, according to security experts.

The FBI this week confirmed that Turkish law enforcement officials are investigating 16 more suspects in connection with the Zotob worm and its variants.
This follows last week’s arrests of Farid Essebar, an 18-year-old Moroccan believed to have been responsible for writing the Zotob and Mytob worms, and Atilla Ekici, a 21-year-old man from Turkey who apparently financed the effort.
According to an FBI spokesperson, the 16 individuals now being investigated are not believed to have any direct links to the actual creation and dissemination of the worms that hit several large organizations two weeks ago. Rather, “it looks more like they are associated with a credit card theft ring” possibly linked to the worms, he says.
The news is further evidence of the growing alliance between hackers and those seeking to profit from cybercrime, says Graham Cluley, a senior technology consultant at antivirus firm Sophos.
“It is certainly something that we thought has been happening for some time,” Cluley says. “What you are likely to see here over the next few days is the unraveling of an entire identity fraud gang.”

W32.Wullik.B@mm worm burrows into shipping Zen Neeon – Engadget – www.engadget.com
Looks like somebody turned off the virus scanner at the Creative production plant—it would appear that about 3,700 Japanese 5GB Zen Neeons shipped since July might have possibly been packing a W32.Wullik.B@mm payload. Of course, if you don’t go running conspicuous applications found on your device and have some cursory virus scanning going on you’ll probably be ok just to wipe the damned thing out of box, but somehow we have a feeling there’ll be an unfortunate few for whom this won’t be too fond an experience.

fusion94.org: Firefox Memory Leaks/Other Issues.
So if you’ve used Firefox you’ve probably noticed that it suffers from what can be described as a fairly harsh “memory leak”. The main cause of the problem appears to lie within the plugin for Flash content. There are 2 workarounds that I’ve located.
The first is rather straightforward and simple but wasn’t practical for me. All you have to do is un-install/remove the flash plugin and performance increases significantly.
The other option (and the one I’m using) requires you to make some changes to the Firefox configuration. This is how you fix this “memory leak” problem. (It’s not actually a leak, it just doesn’t flush the cache it has.)
1)Type about:config into the location bar and press enter
2)Right click any line to bring up a sub-menu
3)Choose “new”>”integer”
4)paste this into the dialogue that appears: browser.cache.memory.capacity
5)Next click Okay
6)Specify the amount in kb (about 60000 should do) in the next dialogue that appears
7)Restart Firefox and happy surfing.
The Pirate Bay – The worlds largest BitTorrent tracker
Ok, this is what everyone has been waiting for. A patch to make a generic OSx86
install DVD a reality.
I can’t take credit for this so don’t fire off a billion questions for how it
was done and what steps were taken. I don’t have a clue since the person that
*did* create this patch-installer knows far more about this kind of hacking
stuff than I do.
THIS IS A TEST RELEASE so hardware incompatibilities and non
loading kexts or whatever are already a known issue for us. The point of
releasing this in its current form is that it works for us and we’re looking for
more testers. This is sure to create a shitstorm of activity in the OSx86
community so please, don’t come down on us because your Audigy doesn’t work or
your ATI X800 card doesn’t have QE enabled.
