I previously wrote on the hack contest that Duxbury Highschool (Duxbury, MA) was having. Several students submitted their hacks, and FINALLY the judges (Myself, Phil Torrone, and Lyle Haze) came to a conclusion..
1st) Nick for his Embedded Guitar pedal
2nd) Stephen for his Compression Chuck for the lathe and Indestructible boom Box
3rd) Tom for his CVS Videocam Hack.
EXCELLENT JOB GUYS!
You can listen to audio of the announcement ceremony here (if that goes down here is an nyud.net link)
Hopefully this catches on, and we see more school sponsored hacking in the future.

As awesome as it is, do they realise that nearly all of the entries really aren’t easy enough to be considered hacks? They’re all just DT projects…
Also, as a guitar player, having an embedded effects pedal…cool, but not very useful. Foot pedals were made so that we can keep our hands on the strings. You’d think that a hack would make something better. If you’re too lazy to bring a damn bag to gigs, then I reckon you shouldn’t go in the first place.
