After a little detective work done by my bros, I explain exactly what the Wii’s “sensor” bar is and why you don’t necessarily need one.

From the completely erratic behavoir of the wiimote after detaching the sensor bar, it is clear that you do indeed need a sensor bar.
Based on the findings so far, it is obvious that the sensor bar is more like a stabalization bar, a stationary point of origin for the wiimote to track movement from. So you can eliminate the sensor bar. All this is good for is making wireless sensor bars.
